Vision

Nature and culture conservation based tourism to support the welfare of the communities of the Kapuas Hulu district, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

KOMPAKH is an independent organization which promotes sustainable and responsible tourism in the Kapuas Hulu district, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

Mission

• Raise the awareness and ensure conservation of cultural and natural wealth in local communities.
• Encourage sustainable and responsible tourism in the Kapuas Hulu district.
• Optimise tourism service quality and support the welfare of the Kapuas Hulu community.
• Maximize the involvement of local communities in sustainable and responsible tourism.
• Promote widely information on the natural and cultural attractiveness of Kapuas Hulu.
  

Background

• Kapuas Hulu hosts one of the most important tropical rain forests in the world. It is inhabited by local communities with their own livelihood and culture.
• Kapuas Hulu contains two National Parks which have been nominated as World Heritage site and Ramsar site by UNESCO
• The district of Kapuas Hulu has opportunities to develop a sustainable and responsible tourism as a means to promote conservation.
• Kapuas Hulu needed a specialized organization to help them develop and manage potential tourism attractions with the participation of all stakeholders.

What do we do

• Initiated a multi stakeholder coordination system
• Develop a protocol of information
• Mediation between local people and the government in planning, managing and implementing tourism
• Assist local people to present their culture and natural resources and to develop tourism attractions as an alternative source of income.

Cooperation

WWF Indonesia WWF-Indonesia is an organization that consent about conservation management, sector reform, sustainable financing, sustainable landscape for present and future generation, that helps management of KOMPAKH's website as a promotion of sustainable uses of natural resources.
