Jungle trekking starts
in a pristine rain forest of Borneo. This trail starts from the
Sibau river side to reach the Suai river side in Kapuas Hulu, West
Kalimantan-Indonesia. This program let you experience white river
boating, trekking in wet and dry forest and attack the steep hill.
After the trekking, you will enter a longhouse of genuine Dayak,
explore the simple and traditional livelihood of the Dayak Taman
and spend your night with local and feel the life in slowly seconds.

Putussibau |
One hour air access by planes of 42 passengers from Pontianak to
Putussibau, the capital of the district of Kapuas Hulu, is located
East of Pontianak - West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Tropical rain forest, Kapuas river, and some shifting cultivation
point can be shown from the plane. From the airport, the trip continues
to the Hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

The tour will start from the boat station of the small town of
Putussibau in a longboat with a maximum capacity of 10 passengers.

At the boat station you can explore the riverbank of the Kapuas
River, see several floating houses and watch local people paddling
in their small wooden boats. While heading upriver to Nanga Potan
we will pass traditional fruit gardens, shifting cultivation sites,
rocky and sandy beaches and small settlements of local people. On
the way we have a good chance to see some jungle birds, such as Egrets
(Egretta garzetta), 9 species of Eagles, 4 species of swallows, King
Fishers (Pelargopsis capensis), the Black Hornbill (Anthracoceros
malayanus) and others.

After two hours we will reach Nanga Potan, the last village in
the Sibau watershed. [Free program] |
Three sub ethnics of Dayak - Bukat, Kantuk and Taman - live here
in 12 wooden houses. We invite you to explore this little village
and to get into contact with the locals. Stay : Guesthouse,
constructed by Local government and WWF-I Putussibau that is managed
by local eco-tourism committee. [Lunch, Dinner] |

After breakfast, the jungle trekking starts. |
The trekking will go through traditional rubber plantations, rich
fruit gardens and rice fields (abandoned/active). During the dry season
you can meet local farmers who are just coming back from harvesting
the rubber. The following trek is a combination of dry and wet trekking.

| Garden Forest |
After hiking upstream the Potan River to the top of a small hill,
we hike down to the confluence with the Jeluang River, where we will
arrive after 4 hours of trekking. |
While trekking you can feel the genuineness of Borneo’s rain forest,
enjoy the clear water, and listen to the wild animal’s calls.
Hat, long Tshirt, sandal for wet trekking and shoes are required.

At the confluence, we will cook a simple lunch for you. After lunch
we will hike up Jeluang Hill, passing shorea trees and listening to
animal calls. |
While waiting for the lunch to be served, you can relax, swim in
the clear water or just enjoy the peacefulness of the forest.

On the top of the hill we will construct a hanging tent to spend
the night in.Overnight at flying camp. |
As the sun sets the jungle awakes and you will hear the amazing
sounds of the nightly jungle life. Slepping bag, mosqoito net and
mattras to be prepared by KOMPAKH. Stay : Flying Camp

In the early morning (around 5 am) you can do animal watching.You
can also cook your traditional breakfast with the local at the camp.

If you are lucky you can encounter primates such as the Orangutan
(Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus), the Bornean Gibbon (Hylobates muelleri
and H. agilis), the Rhinoceros Hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), the
Giant Squirrel (Ratufa affinis) and a great variety of birds. [B] |
| After breakfast and preparation, climbing up a steep hill is the
challenge for today. It is expected to take 2 hour. This is the end
of the heavy trekking part of the tour. |
Once up there, you can enjoy the beauty and freshness of the pristine
forest of the Heart of Borneo from an extraordinary place.

| Ribut river |
It is then time to hike downstream in the calm Ribut River. After
an hour we will reach the point where this river flows into the Suai
River. |
While trekking on the river, you can see fishes and shrimps swimming
in the pure water. |

It is here on the rocky-sandy riverbank that the end of trekking.
The fishes and the clear water invite you for a swim before constructing
the second hanging tent camp on the riverbank. |
View a nice panorama and breathe in pure oxygen. |
| In the evening you can leave your camp for nightly animal observing.
In the late evening hours you are most likely to encounter various
kinds of insects, frogs, fishes and even snakes. |

After breakfast, we will head down the Suai River in a traditional
wooden longboat/ raft until we reach the Na. Awin Village. |
Boating through the clear river with its small rapids with local
people will be exiting and adventurous. While on the boat/raft you
can also watch birds and fishes until we arrive in the traditional
village of Dayak Iban before continuing down to Na. Awin (Kantuk Dayak
tribe) By local long boat, sometime you have to get out from the boat
and pull the boat. [B] |

After arriving in Na. Awin, the trip continue by car to Baligundi
Longhouse |
If the participant up to 3 people, the Taman people at the longhouse
will greet you in their traditional welcoming ceremony (music, dances,
traditional wine, etc) [L] |

In the evening, you can get in touch with the longhouse people.
you can also (participant up to 3) see Dayak Taman cultural performance. |

staff will drive you to your departure point (airport/ bus station). |

There is no bathroom is in the Jungle. For women, it is recommended
to bring sarong(traditional bathwear for women) to bath in the river.
